Confidence

Jon has been very helpful to me from the day I called him asking for a session.

I went in with what I perceived to be ‘my problem’, but while working with Jon I managed to get to the ‘real issue’.

I felt each session was certainly very bespoke to me rather than being the often generic therapy type of information that I’ve experienced in the past.

Jon also taught me a number of techniques from different schools of thought and also sent recap texts after each session which I found very useful.

I have been using the tools and have been feeling better.

My perspective has certainly changed for the positive and am no longer overly hard on myself and the negative thought patterns are a lot weaker.

I am able to look at things more objectively and am teaching myself the way I would teach others.

I would definitely recommend Jon if you are struggling with any issue, as he uses the session time efficiently, offers tools that are suited to you and allows you to choose how many sessions you need.

Many thanks for all your help Jon.

Best wishes.

Fear of flying.

“My fourteen year old daughter Hannah, had become increasingly nervous of flying over these past 4 to 5 years, we had no idea why. She’d flown from the age of 4 on family skiing trips and sunshine holidays, and always enjoyed the flight as much as the holiday itself. However we’d noticed a steady decline in her, the few days before the holiday she would become anxious, the ride to the airport was a silent one as was the flight, she would be sick prior to take off, during the flight and on landing. She didn’t want anything to eat, she just wanted to sleep until it was over, we stopped ticking the box for food on the flight as we wondered if that made her feel sick. We tried talking to her but could not get to the route of the problem. We started looking at what WE were doing, in case it had some kind of impact, we could only take a two week holiday as she point blank refused to be put through the ordeal just for a week’s holiday! We were stuck.

A friend called in to see me around Christmas this year, and chatting away I mentioned that we’d just booked a two week holiday to Fuertventura, but was dreading the flight due to Hannah’s fear of flying. He said, “give Jon a try, he’s good at that sort of thing and has helped a lot of people”. He gave me his number and I called it straight away as he were due to fly late March.

Jon’s based in London so just popping around to see him was not an option. I spoke with Jon at length on he phone. He discussed what he thought he could do, but there was the problem, he was in London and I was in Whitand, West Wales! We decided to try this therapy over Skype, Hannah and Jon, camera to camera, and me listening in out of camera shot.

7pm came around that Sunday night and Hannah’s iPod lit up, Jon was primed, pumped and ready to go. 20 minutes flew by, I was myself intrigued at his approach, it was fun and at one stage both Hannah and Jon were doing “Gangnam style” dance moves, Jon was laughing, Hannah was laughing, I was laughing….it was hilarious. Another 50 minutes flew by and then you could see Jon honing in on the problem, out of nowhere Hannah started to cry, I was concerned but Jon quickly lightened the mood and within a minute or two Hannah was laughing again. At this stage I spoke with Jon, he was happy as he believed he’d found the route of the problem and helped Hannah change the meaning that had kept her so frightened all these years   …in one session! I was intrigued, I felt happy myself at what I’d witnessed, piece by piece the story unfolded, like a Jigsaw, another 10 minutes and Jon had her sorted….but the flight would be the real test.

Jon had checked in with me a couple of times prior to our holiday, but there was nothing to report , all was good in the Gostling household. Jon had given Hannah some exercises to do…would they work? She was using them and her persona prior to the flight this time was different, she was calm.

The drive up to Bristol airport was an easy one, Hannah seemed….normal. Jon checked in with me prior to take off but again all was well. This was…nice.

As we boarded the plane Hannah was again quite chatty, we hadn’t seen this prior to take off in a very long time. The plane throttled up and we were away, and Hannah was good, no sick bag, no wanting to sleep straight away, she was even looking out of the window!

Our holiday had started….on a great note.

The return flight was similar to the outbound flight…..what a difference a bit of mind therapy makes!

Jon was there every step of the way, professional to the end, funny too, great attitude all the way through the whole process.

Thank you doesn’t seem good enough for the help he has given Hannah.

But I’ll say it again…thank you Jon, your a star.”

Fear of Roller coasters and self confidence

Jon was recommended to us by a colleague who had used his services before and had great results.

We visited Florida in 2013 where my son had a panic attack on one of the big rides and was extremely nervous to ride anything afterwards, which spoilt the holiday for him.

We had booked a holiday in Florida again this year and part of the plan was to rebuild his confidence on riding roller coasters so he would get more enjoyment from the trip.

Jon spent 2 hours on Skype with him and after this he seemed so much more confident, but the proof would be whether he could ride a big ride again.

We took him to Alton Towers this Easter to test the work Jon had done in the session and also the techniques Jon taught him to use on the day.

Whilst queuing for the first ride he was gripped with fear, and I didn’t think he would do it, but he kept using the skills Jon had gone through with him.

One of the best feelings was hearing him go from pure fear to exhilaration in seconds.

He rode 3 big rides that day but there were still 1 or 2 he was nervous of.

I have no doubt that he would never have gone on 1 ride if it wasn’t for the help and support Jon gave him.

He wants to reiterate the help Jon did with him just before we leave for Florida, and I know that this will help him overcome his remaining fears so he gets even more from the holiday.

I would thoroughly recommend Jon and the services he provides.

He was fabulous with my teenage son, who was extremely sceptical at first, but has gained so much in such a short time with Jon’s help

Part 2

Hi Jon

Just wanted to send you an update as we are 5 days in.

Kian struggled on the first day and was really nervous doing Seven Dwarfs as it’s a roller coaster, a small one, but still high speed. He overcame this no problem but doesn’t look too convincing in photo below, but then look at his brother.

Up next was Expedition Everest, this was the ride that started all of this off…his nerves increased as we queued especially when the ride hit mechanical difficulties but he rode and loved it this time.

Up next and we hit Rocking Roller coaster…first thing followed by Tower of Terror, again really nervous on both but overcame and loved them.

He used your techniques on both in the queues, the two pictures don’t do him justice as he was whooping it up and can’t wait for later in the holiday to ride again.

Sun was really bright and in his eyes on this one.

Today came the big one….The Hulk….he was petrified and we spent and hour or so riding other smaller rides for him to prepare mentally…he was so scared and disappeared before we rode it to watch your personal video to him.

So the moment of truth and I thought he wasn’t going to be able to do it…he had your t-shirt on and went ahead…using the techniques you gave him in the queue.

He rode it and loved every single second so much he had to go back again straight away for another ride…hence the two finger salute with your logo at the front.

This was all possible from your help, he has said he could never of done it without your support..so THANK YOU so much.

His confidence, his ability to overcome his fears are all down to your help….Honestly I can’t thank you enough.

This is the t-shirt he had as a way of a well done and I got him the photo souvenir as a memento.

You are an inspiration to him and he has benefited greatly from your help, support and kindness and I will never ever be able to thank you enough.

I cannot put into words just how appreciative we are for everything you have done.

Personally I see a different person in my son, far more confident and he is really up for doing the rides now, and not just the small ones but the biggies as well!

I don’t just think this has helped him with the rides but hopefully in life.

As much as me and my wife tell him he can achieve anything with hard work, commitment and desire… He doesn’t believe that.

I see my son full of self-doubt and not enough role models like yourself telling him to break that mould and go and push himself to get results.

I see a difference in him playing football, seen a difference in school since you started working with him and I think a lot of this has also been the result of your messages and ongoing support outside of his sessions.

Kindest regards

Rob Blake

Wedding Speeches

Groom Speech

This year I got married.

However prior to getting married, I really wanted to look forward to the wedding and the party, but instead the thought of me having to make a speech in front of everyone was all I could think about.

I would consider myself to be a very outgoing, confident person, but when it came to my last few work interviews or any time I needed to publicly speak, my voice would break and I would become very self conscious  for awhile after which was hugely inhibiting me from going for other interviews or even putting myself in some situations where I might have to publicly speak.

I contacted Jon to see if there was anything he could possibly do for me.

I just wanted to be able to say a few thank you’sat my wedding and sit down!

After a few sessions, Jon had convinced me write out a speech, instead of “just a few thank you’s”.

During the first session he did some thought changing techniques to address my initial fears and refocus my mind.

Then he had me reading the first draft of my speech out to him, which was a big achievement. Although, in the back of my mind I was still playing with the notion of just saying a few “thank you’s”.

A session later and Jon had convinced me I had to do the speech to my ‘now wife’.
He changed my focus and I was filled with a confidence that I once had before any doubts crept in. It was no longer just about me, but about showing my wife to be how amazing she is and also the sort of man she was going to marry!

Jon was on hand any time I needed him up to the big day.

I went abroad for the wedding but Jon was persistent in texting and emailing me little tips that we learnt through the sessions so I wouldn’t forget how far we had come.

On the wedding day I was living in the moment, not dreading making a speech and that is something I am so grateful for.

I delivered a speech – the same one Jon and I had drafted together and I even added to it on the day because I was so confident  – I was even ad libbing and joking with the crowd! – it was a real success.

I received loads of complaints on the speech, even one of my wife’s friends thought that I did some sort of public speaking as a job!

I just want to thank Jon for making my wedding day an enjoyable one.

I will also now have the confidence to go to another interview if I need to and not find myself making up excuses when confronted with doing any form of public speaking.

Jon may not know this, but his help was so appreciated I can not put into words how relaxed I was during our sessions and that continued all the way through to the wedding day!

I will forever be grateful.

I recommend Jon to anyone with any problems, or even general confidence issues.

Thank you so much Jon young.

Groom Speech 2

Pretty much up to the day of my wedding I hadn’t really got anything to say for my speech.

I had a few things down but the just the normal generic stuff.

I first worked with Jon literally on the day before my wedding in an attempt to get a least something to say, which I have to admit was a bit late!

Unlike the normal approach of digging through YouTube speeches, online jokes and other cliches Jon had a very different and non invasive approach. From the start I felt very relaxed.

In fact I didn’t even know I’d done my speech!
Let me explain.

Because it was the day before my wedding I still had lots to do including taking my dog, Mr Wigglesworth to the kennels.

Jon suggested we just go and get that done and we’d sort the speech afterwards. I was a bit anxious as the time was already very limited but I agreed.

During the journey we just seemed to chat about general stuff, but after dropping the dog off and getting back to the house, Jon handed me a piece of paper and said ‘there’s the material you need to write your speech up.’

Little did I know Jon had managed to get me to explain, in what seemed like just general banter, what I love about my wife, but had previously been unable to find the words by racking my brains ‘trying’ to come up with something.

They were stories I would have never have thought about saying, but was everything I thought about her, if that makes sense?!

All I had to do was sit down and draft it out.

Jon worked with me even on the day of my wedding, to make sure I was ready for my big day and needless to say, thanks to Jon’s tireless help, it went down a treat.

As Jon said to me prior to my speech, if at the end your wife’s crying and everyone else is cheering you know its gone well, and that’s exactly what happened! Tears of joy I hasten to add!

I just want to say a massive thank you to Jon for making what would have been at best, a mediocre speech, into one that was genuine and contained all the things I really wanted to say to my wife, but didn’t know how to.

Best Man Speech

I came to see Jon after he was recommended to me by a friend.

I was flying back to Ireland for my friend’s wedding where I was the Best man.

I had my speech and felt I just needed a couple of pointers.

I only had a few days before going, but didn’t think that was going to be an issue.

However on hearing my speech for the first time I realised I had a lot to do.

Jon helped me on everything from editing my speech, to my posture and my delivery.

He has a wealth of knowledge around human psychology and was able to show me several techniques that helped me with my nerves on the day as well as removing some negative belief patterns during the coaching sessions.

Something he also did was to help me see my role as best man in a totally different light which changed my perspective on why I was doing my speech which also help my nerves greatly.

As I mentioned I only had a short window of time and Jon was adamant he would fit me in for another session to ensure I was ready for the big day, which he did.

Not only this, but he gave me material on the days up to the wedding and even on the day its self to help me in case of emergency!

Jon made it clear during and even after our sessions by the way he went out of his way to help, that my doing a good job on the day was as important to him as it was to me.

I’m happy to say I nailed it on the day and the training paid off for sure.

Thanks so much Jon for your time and help.

First time mum

“I’m grateful to Jon for coaching me towards the birth of my daughter.

Being a nervous first time Mum I had some reservations about labour and Jons approach was genuine, knowledgable and effective.
I would recommend him to anyone facing a situation that requires confidence building and empowerment. I was even able to use his techniques effectively for the birth of my second baby”

Smoking

I went to see Jon Young regarding my smoking habit.

In the past I have used everything from patches to Gum and even E cigarettes but I would always revert back to cigarettes.

I went to see Jon and he made it very difficult for me to justify to myself a reason why I smoke and the more weighted this argument was, the easier it was for me to kick the habit.

Jon took me through a multitude of areas including the root cause of when I started smoking. When he identified this point, I felt this was not the person I am today which also changed why I believed I needed to smoke.

I believed mind-set was a very difficult thing to change, but Jon seemed to be able to do this with ease.

In addition to the sessions, I had Jons support along the way which was amazing because at times I needed that extra support to stay on the tracks.

I am 12 months down the road and not had a cigarette.

I am now, not only able to deal with not smoking, but I am also very confident in situations that would have, in the past made me want to smoke.

I am very grateful to Jon and would recommend seeing him to anyone who wants to stop smoking.

Smoking

With a sense of despondency and sheer desperation to beat nicotine’s hold over me, I visited Jon in November 2014 on the recommendation of a friend.

Having stopped smoking for nearly a year and then started again, I was despondent and was back smoking more than ever with my self esteem and worth shattered by my seeming inability to stop my reliance on cigarettes.

Jon was non intrusive in his questions and during the session it struck me that we rarely talked about cigarettes but the emotional status and the long held conditioning in ‘my head’ around my dependency on nicotine.

Jon created the world of a non smoker and having tasted that already during the year I had stopped, I knew how attractive it was and with Jon’s support, attainable.

I certainly had the desire to become a non smoker but just needed that extra reassurance and support to push me into the world of freedom that not stopping brings.

Three months on and with Jon’s support which he continually gave, I am reaping the benefits not only physically and financially but as importantly, emotionally and mentally.

Jon has enabled me to rebuild my self belief and created a structure of support that should I feel tempted, would be there to support me  before I dropped back into the abyss of cigarette dependency.

Nail biting

I had bitten my nails for as long as I can remember. I have tried to consciously stop myself and  also used horrible tasting nail polish, but as any nail biter will tell you, by the time you think about it, its to late and your fingers are in your mouth, horrible taste or not!

I went to see Jon who as it happens, also used to bite his nails and had used his own system on himself to stop.

I no longer bite my nails and it has been over 4 years since I met Jon for my nail biting session.

Phobias

Fantastic work – I visited Jon with a phobia of spiders – I was unable to be in a room if I knew there was a spider in there regardless of its size.

Jon worked with me in a very relaxed environment, and quickly got to the source of the issue. He used a number of ways to refocus my relationship with spiders to a point that I saw them as they really are (small harmless creatures in the main) and not as my mind had been making them previous to our meeting. I am quite happy close up with spiders and can even handle the smaller ones with no fear.

I would recommend Jon, not just because I have over come my fear, but because Jon works in such a way, that he made me feel like I had done the work of getting over my phobia and he had just helped me understand what I was doing.

nice work!

Mark Chapman

For as long as I can remember I had always had an intense fear of spiders, so much so that I had suffered panic attacks on occasion when seeing one!

Jon used a variety of techniques to help me explore where my fear of spiders had come from, as well as visualisation methods to help me rationalise and change my thought processes during any future encounters. What was great was that the session with Jon was very relaxed and I felt at ease throughout – definitely important considering what was an initially anxiety provoking topic for me to discuss!

It has been almost two years since my session with Jon and I no longer experience anywhere near the same anxiety when I see a spider. If I now find myself faced with a spider I am able to rationalise the situation and don’t automatically panic – in fact I can now quite happily sit in a room with one (until it is removed). I would recommend Jon to anyone looking to overcome any sort of fear or habit . Thanks again!

 Weight Loss

You’ve really helped me a lot over the past 6 months and I’m so grateful for your friendship, help and advice.

I have no idea what the next year will hold for me but I know that I have you to thank for helping me to start on the right path.

I wish you nothing but success in all your endeavours and thank you again so much for all the time and energy you’ve invested in me.

Anger Issues

“Thank you so much for the time and all the advice and help you have provided me.

I was one of those people who thought ‘it’s not me, but everyone else at fault’, so following a recommendation of a friend, made initial contact with Jon.

Even after our first session I really began to change my thinking.

Over the weeks that followed and our conversations and technique suggestions, I am in a much better place and therefore my family is too.

If I now look back and ask myself ‘what if I didn’t make that initial contact with Jon, and carried on the way I was? What would have happened in my life – then to be honest, I  think I would not still be in my home with my family today losing my marriage and my kids as a result. A huge thank you for listening to my stories, and suggesting techniques to try, which have certainly helped me and still are”

Blog Response

‘This is an awesome post. I always read your stuff when struggling for motivation to get out the door and exercise and again tonight I am putting off going to bed early so I can get up early and run. My excuses or ‘can’t be arsed’ attitude cannot stand up when I read your posts!’

‘Honest, true and refreshing to read/view video this a.m. Keep it going.’

Needed that today….

‘You truly did thanks Jon… moved overseas a few months ago..was emotionally wrecked and fear was my constant companion when I arrived.. but paso por paso (step by step) I’d face things that I really had no business being afraid of.. and layer by layer I started to rediscover my courage…but consistency is key.. had a slump the last few weeks..and today was the first day of resurrection… sunny day…your words..Park workout.. kicked anxieties ass with ease..just need to remember that courage exists within me…😊’

‘What a pragmatic mindset – really great’

‘Amazing!!  You have inspired me to make my own video journal of sorts to record my thoughts/reflections as I work through the course. Currently in week#2 and looking forward to making it to week#10 as you have! Also Love the idea of setting a final challenge/goal to work towards. Thanks for sharing your insights with us :)’

They thought Cold Courage was pretty awesome.
